"BE" ( as in, "to be") is the name Jeff gives to the lifelike avatar in Lab Turrim (the secret Tower Lab). The name is also a play on words, using the initials from the avatar's creator, Barrymore Eldrige Hastleworth. Like a "solid hologram" the avatar is a full-sized "bionic emission" constructed of projected atomic particles.

CHET is the name of the computer avatar on Jeff's handheld O-P device. CHET's name is an abbreviation for, "Computerized Human Equivalence Technology." The O-P is named for "Organic Plastic," a material that can be resized based on applied current. It hosts a Quantum Computer.
