Advice from the Pencilmaker

This short clip offers especially good advice to writers, but can also be easily applied to life. Think of your journey and the calling you have to use the gift(s) you have been given and leave God’s mark on the world with the work of your hands!

Enjoy!

The Pencilmaker's Advice...

  • You will be able to do many great things, but only if you put yourself in someone else's hands.

  • From time to time you will experience a painful sharpening, but this will make you a better pencil.

  • You will be able to correct most of the mistakes you make along the way.

  • The most important part of you is what's on the inside.

  • Leave your mark on every surface where you are used, this is your mission -- no matter what else happens, you must continue to write.

The Bible has plenty to say on the subject -- timeless advice for every believer...

6 This is why I remind you to keep using [rekindle; fan into flames] the gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you [C a way of dedicating someone to Christian service; 1 Tim. 4:14]. 7 [L For] God did not give us a spirit [or the Spirit] that makes us afraid [timid] but a spirit [or the Spirit] of power and love and self-control [self-discipline; or good judgment]. 2 Timothy 1:6-7 Expanded Bible (EXB)

26 Brothers, consider your calling: Not many are wise from a human perspective,[a] not many powerful, not many of noble birth. 27 Instead, God has chosen what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong. 28 God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world—what is viewed as nothing—to bring to nothing what is viewed as something, 29 so that no one[b] can boast in His presence. 30 But it is from Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became God-given wisdom for us—our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption, 31 in order that, as it is written: The one who boasts must boast in the Lord.[c] ~ 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
