Apostles Quickly Start Acting Pious As They Notice Luke Taking Notes

ree

This was the tongue-in-cheek headline of a recent article on a site that specializes in humorous satire. (The site also specializes in offending just about everyone, so I won’t promote the name of it here.)

The article includes exchanges like this one: "Oh, sorry, didn't know you were writing all of this down," Paul reportedly said to Luke. "So, um… Silus, let's talk about real, serious stuff now.”

Faith in Everyday Life

The truth is that every day faith sometimes looks a little unfaithful.

Picture a typical morning, the sun spilling through the window, casting golden rays across your desk as you peacefully sip coffee…. Can’t relate to that? How about an hour of chaos as you chase kids, make breakfasts, get everyone dressed, and out the door before racing to work for a critical meeting?

We face looming deadlines or navigate tense conversations on a daily basis. Life hums with its relentless rhythm—work, relationships, choices big and small. For those striving to live the Christian life, we know there’s a deeper call: to weave the principles of our faith into the fabric of everyday life. How do we live out Christ’s teachings when the world feels mundane, chaotic, or even hostile? Let’s explore how Christian principles can guide us through work, relationships, and decision-making, with a spark of the divine to light the way.

~ Living Faith ~

Life can sometimes feel like a battlefield—tight deadlines, demanding bosses, or the quiet monotony of routine. Yet, it’s in these moments that Christian principles shine. Colossians 3:23 reminds us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Imagine the shift when you see your work—whether it’s crunching numbers, teaching children, or stocking shelves—as an offering to God. Suddenly, the mundane becomes sacred.

Maybe you’ve had one of those experiences -- exhausted by long shifts and difficult people, when someone lashed out, you were tempted to respond with frustration, but whispered a prayer instead, and recalled a verse that spoke to you. Something like Galatians 5:22-23—the fruit of the Spirit includes patience and kindness. You felt encouraged to respond with grace, and in that moment, a flicker of the supernatural broke through: the other person softened, maybe sharing a story of a loss they are dealing with that opened the door to healing. Our small choices to embody Christ’s love can transform a workplace into a mission field.

You don’t need a dramatic moment to live this out. Try starting your workday with a prayer for strength and wisdom. When challenges arise, ask, How can I reflect Christ here? It’s not about perfection but intention—small acts of integrity, kindness, and diligence can ripple outward, touching lives in ways you may never see.

~ Relationships Rooted in Love ~

Relationships are where faith meets flesh. Whether it’s a spouse, friend, or coworker, every interaction is a chance to live out John 13:34: “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” But love isn’t just warm feelings; it’s sacrifice, forgiveness, and courage. It’s difficult at times.

Ephesians 4:32: “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Forgiving others can be hard, especially when the hurt runs deep, but it’s a crucial element of faith. It’s like pulling the weeds that will strangle our relationships (and us) if not dealt with.

Let’s be honest, relationships test our faith daily. That coworker who gossips, the friend who forgets to call, the family member who pushes your buttons—they’re all opportunities to practice Christ’s love. Try this: when conflict brews, pause and ask God to show you the other person’s hurt. Listen more than you speak. Forgive, even when it stings. These acts don’t just mend relationships; they invite God’s presence, and can turn ordinary moments into something extraordinary.

Getting practical: Decision-Making with Divine Guidance ~

Life’s choices can feel like standing at a crossroads in a fog. Should you take that job? Move to a new city? Confront a wrong? Christian principles offer a compass: seek God’s wisdom, trust His plan, and act with courage. Proverbs 3:5-6 promises, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

God can surprise us sometimes with the way He comes through. A moment of clarity, sensing God’s nudge—a supernatural certainty about a decision we’re facing. James 1:5: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously.” Whether it’s a big decision —like choosing a career—or small ones—like how to respond to a slight, it will benefit from the same approach. Start with prayer, not a big elaborate prayer - just ask for wisdom. Study Scripture for guidance. Seek counsel from trusted believers. Then step forward, trusting the outcome is in God’s hand.

Sometimes, the miracle is simply the quiet assurance that you’re not walking alone.

~ The Adventure of Faith ~

I love Christian fiction for the way it captivates us with adventure and supernatural intrigue—heroes facing impossible odds, divine interventions that turn the tide. But everyday life is its own adventure. The battle between good and evil plays out in your choices, your words, your heart. Every time you choose faith over fear, love over anger, or integrity over ease, you’re living a story worth telling.

So, as you close this post and step back into your day, carry this truth: your life is a chronicle for God’s glory.

  • At work, let your diligence and kindness reflect Christ.

  • In relationships, let love and forgiveness be your legacy.

  • In decisions, let God’s wisdom guide your steps.

The supernatural isn’t just in the pages of a novel—or in the events that Luke recorded in Acts. It’s in the quiet moments when you choose faith, and God’s presence breaks through.
